Alright, so we've had the single out online for a few days and now I'm finally writing about it. I just like to let things sink in first. When I first tried to watch the video, at first I was shorted of any sound. That sucked. I could see, well sorta, what the video looked like but I couldn't hear anything. Thanks to figuring it out that my Real Player was being mean, I simply sat and listened to the song. I didn't want to try and spend time figuring out what Blurry Rich was doing at the time, and just focused on the music.
My first impressions, as a fan of course, was this is awesome and a great song. It is. It's got a nice blend of Short Bus and Title of Record, yet at the same time sounds nothing like either album. Yet, it's STILL Filter through and through. It's like Filter finally filled the shoes they had been growing into all this time. If this is an indication of the album itself, I have a funny feeling we'll be growing as a fan base.
I also heard a lot say it wasn't hard enough. I thought it had a great blend of hard and soft, giving it a dimension not evident in a lot of the previous songs. Take A Picture barely expressed any rough edges and even though Welcome to the Fold had a rough and soft section to it, they didn't blend the way this song has done. I think that just shows how Filter has grown since Title of Record.
Thanks to Filtered at the FDG, we got the lyrics to the new song. (Hell, I probably had almost all of 'em wrong besides "where do we go from here," but that's not the point.) The lyrics, as a rumor stated, could be applied to September 11th and that whole mess, but can be adapted for tons of things in any one's life outside of the Towers being hit.(Sorry guys, if I hear one MORE time about the damn Towers, I'm going to pull my hair out.)
A few of my favorite lines of the song happen to be various ones through out, as the poetry of them paint pictures in my mind. "these, broken dreams are screams to me," "the combination of loss control, loss of soul I wheeze" and "stop dreaming about that shiny gun" make me think of different things and add a texture to the song that makes it different than some Filter songs.
Now to the fuzzy video I caught. I watched it and saw Blurry Rich make some funny faces and saw some random fuzzy people here and there but it was Frank that caught my eye. What a close up! Wish I could find out when crappy MTV would air the damn video so I could tape it.
I hate watching videos online. They jerk, glitch, and are as fuzzy and blurry as hell. But sometimes, if you're bored and want to make fun of a video, they can provide you the entertainment you seek, if you're into that. Anyways, it ticked me off. I'm on cable folks, but the highest video I could get my hands on was 56K. That sucked. It looked like a fun video, but again, I hate online videos for being crappy. It looked like everyone had a party and a good time. Damn it, why couldn't I have a cool party with about 50 or so of my friends and Filter as my band! It'd be better than any crap party I've had in the past. Anyways, I can't wait to see the clear, larger screen version of the video without the goofy Rich faces as he gets frozen in another crappy glitch.
As most of you know, the single comes out to stores on Tuesday. I hear it's got neat things like the address and key to open amalgamut.com and I've heard rumors of the video being on the single itself, but we'll see on Tuesday. I'll be trying my hardest to get my hands on the damn thing on Tuesday, but as some of you know, I live in small town, Minnesota and my luck of picking this gem up is pretty low. But, if I get lucky enough and my local On Cue should carry it(which may happen), I'll be talking about the SINGLE, SINGLE in the next Consider This. It should be fun. Be on the look out. If not, I'll be talking about the Filter Village People. Only Lexie gets that.
