Would you look at THAT! A New Consider This! 10/26/02

Yeah, yeah. I know. It's been 3 weeks since my last Consider This, but damn it, there really hasn't been all that much to talk about lately. If I had more things to talk about, I'd write more Consider This stuff but as of late with all that has been going on in the Filter camp(or rather lack thereof) there just hasn't been much to redicule, satirize or just have a good time writing about. Sooooo, I finally have some stuff. What is it you ask??

First off, I'd like to talk about the Metal Edge Review of Filter's New York City Irving Plaza show. The pictures are pretty cool. Rich in his cowboy hat and sunglasses singing and all that's pretty cool. But the small photo above that of Frank is even cooler. Mid head bang, Frank's hair is all over the place. I think that's an awesome photo. Don't really know why, it just is.

As for the review, I think it was very cool. I really liked the prose of it, especially when the reviewer, Cathy, said: The reptilian lighting patterns imitated the slithering and vibrant chords coming from guitarist Geno Lenardo. . .

I love it when people say things like that. It just makes it sound so much cooler, not that it wasn't cool to begin with or anything. . .

I also thought it ruled when she said, "Bassist Frank Cavanagh didn't refrain from being twice as ballistic as the fans. . .

I can see that. It'd be cool. Very cool. Guess that's where that head banging picture comes into play. Over all I think it's one of the more enjoyable reviews I've read, and it wasn't just cause they liked the band. I just liked them descriptions a lot.

The other part of Metal Edge before I move on is the Roundup Section. The question asked of bands that month was "If you could be a member of any band for a day, which one would you be in?" Rich said that he'd pick The Doors. Thought I'd share.

Now moving on to Hit Parader's wonderful(sarcasm) list of "Metal's All Time Best." Now, can someone PLEASE tell me who put this list together? I kept asking myself if a certain person they put on this list was really metal.

I'm not going to complain that they put Rich at #92 All Time Best Metal Star, but damn it...can someone explain these other ones to me?

1. At # 53 Eric Clapton. Now, you tell me. Eric Clapton played in bands such as Cream and The Yard Birds, which you can classify as metal, but alone he's not all that metal. Now he's very bluesy and without the support of Jimmy Page, Pete Townsend and co. he's never been that metal to begin with. I'd say if they had to include him on the list they should have done so with Cream as a whole.

2. At #25 Keith Richards. NOW, wait a minute here. The man is NOT metal, has NEVER been metal and will NEVER be metal. The man's idols are: Chuck Berry and Howling Wolf. Wanna explain to ME how Keef makes it at #25 let a lone this list at all?

3. At #20 Mick Jagger. Looks like someone likes the Glimmer Twins out there, cause they got both on this list. And again, Jagger is not, has never been, will never be metal. He's a blues fan, just like his counterpart in Keef, and even though The Stones did have their disco era at the end of the 70s and early 80s, they never even came close to playing around with metal. Not once.

I did like the fact that even though the Glimmer Twins placed, they put Trent Reznor at #14. One thing they may have done right is including Ozzy at #1. Ah well, I guess I'm still left with the question of: WHO PUT THIS LIST TOGETHER!

Now to shift some gears. On Thursday it was Geno's birthday. YAY for Geno!! Happy Birthday and keep on rocking. I'd get some big people names from a list but I'm lazy and don't feel like rooting around boring birthday lists to find any at the moment. So there.

On one final note, I'd like to say that I have finally completed my Amalgamut review. That can be found in the new section titled Music Reviews. I hope you'll have the time to catch that and read it. It'l be a little different than the Consider This, but regardless, take a peek, damn it. Oh and have fun! See ya next time!
