The Rockline Files 8/9/02

I don't know how many of you caught the Rockline interview, but here is what I caught out of the thing. I took my little notes(mainly because Warky couldn't record it. . .it was a bad thing) so you'll have to do with what I figure out from those notes. Bear with it or go write your own Consider This. It might do you some good.

Well, everyone was there BUT Frank. I'm going to pout about that. Where was he?? Why wasn't he there? Doesn't he like us? Anyways, we got to hear from everyone that was there randomly, though I think Rich's external volume turned up a few times here and there. Lots of talking together though. .

The first question asked Rich where he got the title for the album and how it came about. Some of it may surprise you. He said that he was talking with his friend, that's FRIEND, D'arcy about it and came up with the word Amalgamut. Ah, the joys of Filter speak. If the word don't exist, make the word up!

Then they talked about that Plague of 1000 Deceptions video that I still have yet to figure out really. It perplexs me, though he mentioned, as most of us know, that the 4th underlies the entire video for the most part. That's about all I gotta out of that. Will some one PLEASE tell me what the hell that video is supposed to mean? I'd like to know.

Ah, then they played Where Do We Go From Here. Very nice, very fun, very entertaining. . .blah blah blah. Moving along now onto the next questions. . .

Someone called in, mentioning the show I went to, asking why Filter didn't pull any pranks. Geno mentioned that they're not really a prankster band, except with themselves. It had been mentioned, a tid bit I had forgot, that there had been someone who snuck on stage from the tour wearing a naked man suit. Very entertaining. I guess it confused them just as much as it confused us in the crowd. I vaguely remember that very briefly now that I think about it.

Geno then told the story about how he met Rich and Frank as Rich was moving from Cleveland to Chicago. He tells of how he mistook Frank for Rich and thought that Rich looked psycho(even though that was really Frank) until Rich came around the other side of the moving van. I thought that was cute. Then he thought Rich looked even more psycho than Frank! I guess it's a good thing that Frank wasn't there!

Then someone called in, asking about what they should do as a musician, if they get stuck, and how Filter deals with such things. Rich said that you have to get out and do something new, take a little break. Then he mentioned his BMW trip across the country. Very nice, all I got is an old lady car.

After Hey Man, Nice Shot was played, someone asked about setlists and if Filter uses them. Rich said that they really pick the songs just as they get to venue and play just about anything they can, not really defined to the letter as other bands might do. He even managed to mention the Official Site, to mention the little poll we had a while back with the song choices, which is just cool.

Rockline has something called the Encore Question, where the band before you asks you a question. Linkin Park had been on the week before, and they asked a very difficult question. In all of the confusion amongst the band members, I never did get the answer. They were supposed to say which word ends like Hungry or Angry with the gry.

Geno wasn't very pleased with it, saying that even though they had to leave their question for Rob Zombie, he wanted to leave one for Linkin Park that was just as hard. Rich simply shouted, "You guys all went to college! Answer it!" Wait, I didn't know Steve went to college to become a College Idiot like all college graduates/students aspire to be!

Then they moved along, asking Rich how he developed his voice. Geno pointed out that smoking probably doesn't do any good, which Rich refuted with that it hasn't hurt anything according to his doctors. Rich then went on to say that he's lucky that nature gave it to him and stated that if you listen to Short Bus, he's really a scared kid underneath it all . Now he's got more confidence and said that anyone out there who is trying should simply do just that. Try.

And to any resentment from other bands for comments such as "best band?" Rich simply said he was kidding about that. Gee, what a shock here. Rich stated that Rae is patient when asked about working with Ben Grosse and Rae DiLeo. I'd say so. Not everyone lets you shove your ass into their face. I guess Ben is a sweetheart, according to Rich. How nice.

Before they played My Long Walk To Jail, Rich and Geno filled everyone in on who did what and wrote what. Rich wrote the lyrics out after recieving the phone call and Geno worked on the music aspect of the song.

Ah, this is where it gets interesting. . .Rich was asked about the wildest things fans have ever done. Apparently during the Short Bus Tour, a couple was actually, as Rich put it, making love not far from the stage. Geno's comment was "Free Love at the Filter Show!" Gee, I guess the music inspired SOMEBODY there. . .

Only other interesting things worth noting is Filter does not endorse making MP3s of Live Recordings, except for personal use, although they frown on that a bit with the fact that it can lead to more trouble in the end, like most MP3 file swapping. I figure regular bootlegging can't be all that bad. Hell, I think it sorta helps those who haven't heard them live or to own that show they went to. HEY, that reminds me!! Some one who was at Council Bluffs and has a copy, I'd much appreicate one!!

On that note, I'll leave you to ponder all of the little tid bits. It was fun to listen to, though Alan and Steve didn't get much in over the racous Rich and Geno's bantering and loud talking. Too bad Frank wasn't there. I'm sure he would have had tons of fun things to say. Oh, and if you got a recording of that Rockline, I'd love a copy of that too! See ya next week. I'll pick on Conan and Carson next Friday because I CAN.
